About Neema Foundation
Neema Foundation for the Deaf, established in 2017, focuses on empowering and raising awareness about Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals, particularly women, youth and children within Deaf communities. Addressing the global and South African context where these groups face barriers in education, employment and entrepreneurship, the Foundation aims to foster their economic and social independence. Through offering platforms, tools and services for active participation in mainstream society, advocating for Deaf awareness, and promoting fluency in South African Sign Language (SASL), the Foundation works towards creating an inclusive society where Deaf individuals can fully participate and access services without barriers, enriching South African culture with acceptance and inclusion.

Our Mission
To ensure that Deaf and hard of hearing women, youth and children have equal access to education, are empowered through skills development programmes and are adequately positioned across South Africa and the African continent.
Our Vision
To enhance the lives of Deaf and hard of hearing women, youth and children across South Africa and the African continent but not limiting men.
Our Focus Areas
Our core focus areas are Inclusion, Advocacy, Social Cohesion and Empowerment. These areas can be viewed in the following:
- Raise awareness around their human rights and uplift their social and economic status of Deaf and hard-of-hearing persons with a fundamental focus on women, youth and children.
- Promote inclusion of services for the Deaf community in South African Sign Language as the Country's 12th Official Language.
- Facilitate training programmes with training institutions, capacity-building and awareness programmes for Deaf including creating entrepreneurship activities to provide skills development and income generation.
- Provide programmes and family support services with the aim of giving psychosocial assistance to the Deaf and hard-of-hearing as well as members of the families of youth and children including Deaf Victims of Gender Based Violence.
- Create social activities that promote awareness of Deafness, Deaf Culture and Deaf inclusion in predominately hearing communities whilst promoting SA Sign Language as medium of communication.
